The national lockdown forced educational institutions throughout the country to suddenly switch to remote learning, and the staff and students of the IMC Weekend School were no exception. Through improvisation and rapid response, guest teachers and coordinators were able to reach the students through streaming or digital versions of the teaching programme. This exhibition presents a selection of the online initiatives that were and/or currently are available to the students of our schools in Amsterdam, in areas where such opportunities are most needed – all the more so in these times.
During the corona pandemic, our slogan Hier maken we toekomst (Futures are made here) applies more than ever. Thanks to our future-proof online classes, for one, but also because of the future-oriented nature of our educational concept: to introduce youths between the ages of 10 and 14 to the world of jobs in collaboration with passionate guest teachers, and thereby to expand their horizons, encourage boldness and teach them to make motivated choices for their own future. And the effects are visible: motivated students in the classrooms, reduced inequality of opportunity, better-informed future career choices, a lower dropout rate and greater participation in Dutch society.
