Silent Red Light
door Nathalie Girard
Society and the economy have undergone drastic changes in the past six months. Where this used to be a vibrant, flourishing region, we now live in a crippled city with rapidly rising unemployment and a collapsing tourist industry. Crucial sectors like hotels, restaurants, and cafes, arts and culture, the night scene and the events sector are under severe strain, and the overall quality of life is in decline. The main question is: how will we get out of this crisis together? How can we bring about a sustainable, resilient reset of the metropolitan area that is Amsterdam, and which values will we embrace in doing so? Because if COVID-19 has made one thing clear, it is that inequality in our city is greater and runs deeper than we ever thought.
