The virus and the city: rebuilding after corona, by Justus Uitermark, professor of Urban Geography
The City of Amsterdam asked Justus Uitermark, professor of Urban Geography at the University of Amsterdam, to write a piece on the impact of corona on Amsterdam. He wrote a splendid essay exploring the mood, solidarity and ‘possibilities for a new story’ in connection with corona.
‘This essay looks back at changes in the city since the corona outbreak, in order to identify future threats and possibilities. The focus is always on unity – on the relationships between the residents of Amsterdam and the commitment they feel – but seen against the background of major developments in the job market and the housing market.’
