The homeless are adamant: their restaurant remains open
When everyone is asked to stay at home and lots of facilities are closing their doors, life becomes even tougher for the city’s homeless people. That’s why the Community of Sant’Egidio’s restaurant for the homeless, Franciscustafel (Saint Francis Table), remained open to offer a place where people can sit down for a moment and have a breather.
There are lines on the ground to ensure that people also keep to the 1.5 metre distance when outside. The ‘friends of the street’ are able to enjoy nice meals in a quiet atmosphere, served by familiar volunteers as well as new volunteers who have signed up spontaneously.
