Since the start of the pandemic, an increasing number of Amsterdam residents have become interested in getting an allotment. De Bond van Volkstuinders (Association of Allotment gardeners), that has 24 allotments and 6000 members in the city, has reported a huge increase in the number of people on the waiting list.
‘Many people living in apartments would love to have a garden and this is what the allotments are for’, says Ralf Grevelink, chairman of the association. Members of the association also spent a lot more time on their allotment since more people were working from home, and because of the corona measures elsewhere in the city.
